What to do on holidays to Greece
Greece is packed with beautiful beaches. There are plenty to choose from, whether you’re a sunbather, swimmer or surfer. Big, buzzing beaches can be found along the coast, and on some of the islands are secluded, sandy bays that are real undiscovered gems. The island of Corfu is terrific for beach lovers. Over 30 blue-flag beaches are scattered across the island, the best being Archavari, Agios Stefanos and Messonghi. Plenty of the beaches also offer water sports that are ideal if you’re a bit of a thrill seeker. If you get fed up with the sand Corfu is also home to the huge water park Aqualand.
Of course, there is much more to Greece than beaches. For you culture vultures, there is no better experience than visiting the birthplace of democracy, Athens. Work your way through the hustle and bustle of the city and be sure to visit the temple of Zeus and the Acropolis. Athens is also the best place to stop at a traditional taverna and check out the local tipple, ouzo, Greece’s classic aniseed flavoured spirit. The Greeks know how to party. They start late and finish late, so if you think you can keep up, head to the island of Zante for some of the best nightlife around. Mykonos is another good island for entertainment if you’re up for a more chilled night out, with its cool and cosmopolitan uptown bars.
